WMSU Palaro 2014 Cosplay Trip

How to make the most out of your WMSU Palaro experience? GO COSPLAY!

Remember my old college club Nihon Fure Ai Kai 日本触れ合い会? Well, last time they invited me to judge their cosplay competition during the Nursing Palaro. This time, they gladly welcomed us (Patsy and yours truly) to cosplay and help promote their Cosplay Cafe.

The Cosplay Cafe was an activity by the Nihon Fure Ai Kai club aimed to generate income to fund other club activities that promote camaraderie among members and promote the club itself to other Nursing students. It's actually quite popular not only in WMSU but in other universities as well. Students from other schools visited the university's sports festival to get a chance to experience eating in a cosplay cafe. :)

They served ramen, confection and drinks to paying customers. Aren't these servings adorable? The ramen surprisingly tasted good, too. I was able to sample them at the end of our promo walk.

Anyway, the promo-walk activity that I did together with fellow ZamboBlogger PatSy was planned in a short time. PatSy was in town and to let her enjoy the ongoing WMSU palaro, I invited her to cosplay with me during the last day of the Cosplay Cafe. Gail and Sheed tagged along too.

I am the Harajuku Hello Kitty! :)
Ka-ka-ka-kawaii!
PatSy is a Zamboanga Blogger and cosplayer based in Metro Manila. It was her first time cosplaying in Zamboanga. :)
PatSy as Tsukasa and yours truly wearing a Harajuku-inspired coord.
We really didn't talked much about what we were going to wear that day but we ended up wearing similar costumes:
Both of us wore purple wigs, pink seifukus and had a bow on our head. How cute is that?

Tsukasa and Kagami? LOL kidding!
We walked around the campus holding our Cosplay Cafe sign, inviting potential patrons to visit and eat there. People asked for a photo op with us. Kids got excited just by seeing us in our costumes and one approached us, wondering if the wigs we wore that day were our real hair color and style. How adorable.

It felt like we were those girls in costumes in the streets of Akihabara. :D
It was nice to hear pleasant comments from people who saw us that day. One common description of our activity was "cute". Hihi :D
With the members of Nihon Fure Ai Kai

We celebrated the success of the cosplay cafe and end of the palaro by munching ramen with the club members.

PatSy, Kend and yours truly.
Congratulations to the members of the Nihon Fure Ai Kai and to the staff of the cosplay cafe for the huge success~ It was the last day of the cafe yet customers were still visiting for a bite. Job well done!
PatSy so shy :D
Thank you so much to the club president and my dear Kouhai Ivy for inviting us to your club activity~! Hope to see you guys cosplay again next year.
Get-together after the closing of the cafe. :)

WMSU Palaro 2014 - Cosplay Trip TEASER

Cee and Patsy in purple wigs and pink seifukus :)

WMSU PALARO 2014
When we helped out the Cosplay Cafe of the College of Nursing by promoting it to the WMSU students. :) Incidentally, we both dressed up in pink sailor uniforms and violet wigs.

I will be uploading the entire set as soon as I am done with a couple of orders from my shop. I don't want to keep my clients waiting.

Anyway, I am also done with our Shironuri set. All I need to do is to write the story.

Watch out for these sets soon~

Haruhi and Kyon - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Shoot

This is my most favorite cosplay photoset of all. I love how the colors came out in the photos. And the cosplayers were just so in character and also cooperative during the entire shoot. They were following my instructions well on how to pose and act out during I take the photos.

The concept of this shoot was inspired by the second episode of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (EP 01). This was when Haruhi and Kyon first met.

Try watching this video before viewing the photos. :)

I liked how Kyon tried to interact Haruhi during the first few parts of the episode. He was trying to make friends with the pretty but mysterious girl sitting behind him but this girl, Haruhi, cuts him off and tells him not to talk to her since he is not something extraordinary (like and alien or a time traveler or an ESPer).
Anyway, here are the photos from the shoot:

Crimsolympics Cosplay Competition Day Two Portrait Shots

Maybe I'm getting good at it... Maybe not. Whatever! I love taking portrait shots on cosplayers. In my opinion, portrait shots capture a closer look of the cosplayer and the costume. Cosplayers make accurate costumes, taking note to every little detail even the eye color (we wore contact lens to copy the character's eye color) so to capture everything in the photo, a good portrait shot is needed.

LOL

Anyway, without further ado, here are the photos of the impromptu shoot that we had during the second day of the Crimsolympics Cosplay Competition. Enjoy!

These photos were taken during the Crimsolympics Cosplay Competition Day Two.

Crimsolympics Cosplay Competition - WMSU (Part 2)

Zamboanga Cosplay - Cee Culanculan as Lelouch

For the first part, click here.

And now, here's my report on the second part of the WMSU Palaro 2012 cosplay competition that was held last September 7, 2012. The event was the awarding night of the two-day competition. We dressed up again as our characters from the first day and did our catwalk for the last time.

(click on the photos to enlarge them)

Here's a photo of Jenaly before the event. I was like, "HARUHI!" and she turned around and smile for me. What a nice girl!

Before the event, we had a mini-shoot with my friends who were also contestants that day. I got mostly portrait shots of them and I will post the set soon so watch out for it!

We did not have a photographer during the first part of the event so I don't have any photo or video of our catwalk. Good thing Lucille arrived just in time for the awarding proper.

The winners of the event:
Zamboanga Cosplay - Cee Culanculan winning an award in cosplay with Ami Kawashima
Cee won best in character portrayal and Ami Kawashima cosplayer won cosplay of the crowd.
Waa! I can't believe I actually won this award! Thank goodness for Lelouch's poses and regal aura that was really his trademark from the anime. It was a little bit easy to copy and portray during the catwalk. :D

Zamboanga Cosplay
Nouf as Utau of Shugo Chara won second place!
Nouf here changed her character from Mikuru to Utau of Shugo Chara. She won second place for her cosplay! Congratulations, Nouf!

Crimsolympics Cosplay Competition Day One Portrait Shots

Well, I can't stop being a photographer even though I'm cosplaying (I was Lelouch that day). LOL. So I asked some of the participants to pose for my camera. Watch out for more cosplay photos soon!

Quick Post: Cee won an award for a cosplay

Been wanting to write about this mini-cosplay competition held in my school but I think I won't be able to dedicate a lot of time for it tonight coz I got to study for a couple of long tests tomorrow. So maybe a quick blog post on that huge thing that happened to me during that competition.

This cosplay won a special award during the Crimsolympics Cosplay Competition of the WMSU PALARO 2012. A small thing if you compare it with the other awards that night but it's a big thing for me since it's one of those awards that I have received for "just having fun".

Cee Culanculan Lelouch Lamperouge of Code Geass Cosplay

This photo is by one of my friends, Lucille Miguel. Again, I thank you Luchie for taking a lot of photos that day. Will upload the set soon!

I would like to thank the organizers for this event and the judges for choosing me! LOL.

Well, that's it for now. I hope I'll have a lot of time next time for a full report on the Day One and Two of the cosplay event.

By the way, don't forget to join the giveaway collab by yours truly and other Zamboanga Bloggers. You can check it out by clicking here or the photo below. Join and win awesome Hatah Hatah hats and other treasures!

What I've been doing.

It's our Palaro!! (lalala~) And I actually thought that I can blog as much as I want this week since we won't be having classes and duties but... NO! Ugh. School activities everywhere, plus our research study! I did not even have enough time to help our club's booth during and worse, I think I won't be having a day off. Oh well, so much for the one week vacation, as they say.

Well I'm not entirely complaining about it since I have enjoyed a little, somehow.

Anyway, here's a quick recap on what happened during the past few days. Photo-blog post, everyone!

How Cee enjoyed the week off...

Tuesday, Sept 4
cee culanculan

A couple of kids brought a bunny to school and I HAD TO HOLD IT! Asked my friend to take a photo of me with it. It wuz zoo fluffeh!

A actually snatched that nekomimi (kitty ears) from a co-member of Nihon just for this photo. Of course, I returned it to the owner afterwards. :D

The entire class of BSN4F visited two homes for the aged for one of our subjects yesterday. We conducted a short program and interacted with our chosen clients. It was my first time to visit these homes and it was a wonderful experience being with them.

In the afternoon of that day, me and my friends joined a cosplay competition held in our campus. I went as Lelouch Lamperouge since I've been dying to cosplay Lulu. It actually turned out okay! (I was expecting a haggard face and a messy wig since I was so tired of the home for the aged visits and I had little time to prepare for everything!). I would like to thank my friend Lucille for the following photos:

I had a lot of fun that day! It was nice hanging out with my friends. We were actually posing for photos while an interview with another cosplayer was happening on stage. OHNOEZZ (Take note, we were ALSO on stage. :p)

Can you guess the characters we portrayed that day? ;)
L-R: Nouf, Shellaine, Cee, Cristina and Jenaly
I will write another post about this certain event soon, of course with a lot of photos so watch out for it! :)

Nihon Fure Ai Kai Club - NSG Convocation X Rukia Kuchiki Cosplay

A couple of months ago, the Western Mindanao State University College of Nursing welcomed the freshmen by organizing the annual convocation - the time when faculty members, rules, regulations, proper uniform, etc. are being introduced. Of course, college clubs were presented that time too.

Welcome to the Nihon Fure Ai Kai!
The only club I belong in my college is the Nihon Fure Ai Kai (A Touch of Japan) club. The club offers sponsored Japanese language classes to nursing students who are members of the club. Sadly, I am not taking up classes because I only joined last year. >_<

Rukia Kuchiki with the members of the club.
So yeah, I cosplayed Rukia Kuchiki during the convocation. As what I have said on my last post, our club is famous for our cosplay so to promote it, we were asked to dress up and dance in front of the whole college.

Me and Marge had our try on the entrance of our mini-Japan. :)
Of course Kon had to come along. :)

Take a look at our display.
This is our wonderful table that day, thanks to the members who set this up. :)
Click on the photos to enlarge it.

Hey, it's me! My Kyon cosplay last year.

So yeah, here I am before the table accepting new members.
Oh yeah. About the dance...

I was part of the club's presentation. I was trying to be Rukia while dancing the Hare Hare Yukai. So what do you think? :)
